Extubation Revisited

Here are a couple of highlights from Jude's day today:

  • Jude was extubated around 2 pm today to nasal cannulas, and he handled the transition very well. Praise God!
  • Jude's nurse attempted to begin feeding him a small amount of Pedialyte around 5 pm as a precursor to breast milk, but unfortunately his feeding tube became occluded (i.e. blocked) and we had to suspend feeding him for now. Yesterday, his feeding tube was advanced into his pylorus, an area just past the stomach, after the surgical placement of his BROVIAC catheter. Placing the feeding tube was a technical challenge because Jude's stomach and bowel are currently in his chest, but it appeared that the placement was successful; however, the fact that tube was occluded today may indicate that the line is kinked somewhere in Jude's body. Please pray that this can be rectified without having to fall back solely on IV nutrition.

Here are a few pictures from the last few days, both pre- and post-operation:

This one's a bit blurry, but it's a cute smile. :)
